House/Wilson

Lost Causes by Eos (Ducks-in-a-row) [House/Wilson]
Oh come on. Like I was honestly going to watch House and not get sucked into a pairing. I fought it, but...here we go. Anyways, good clean fun in the House-snark-style. I'm about to rec a mass of House fic here, some of it gen, some of it House/Wilson, and I can't remember which ones, but in some of these there were a few lines that I thought a bit ooc or awkward, but in general, all of this stuff is lovely, has snark and some of it even has -medicine-. Hard medicine. Because some of this is written by a -doctor-. I was impressed. (This girl is particularly good.)

The Song Remains the Same by Eos [House/Wilson]
I love House. That's all I can really say, because Eos is lovely with dialogue and...and you'll like this. Really. XD

What Works by Gena [Mostly gen, ends in a kind of one-sided Wilson/House]
Very nice, very mellow and relaxed and then it kind of...softly settles into something without actually doing anything.

Defensive Strategies by Milkshake Butterfly [House/Wilson]
Hillarity ensues! I mean, it's an entirely probable scenario that goes somewhere insane and...and she does very fun things with it. I love Wilson in this, but I also love House. It's just...so good, and with a very sneaky ending that you'll laugh over. XD Rare usage of an impressive if minor original female character-- something I'm not normally keen on but worked very well here. (And hell, in House or in CSI, OFCs or OMCs will come and go, and this has that kind of feeling. Awesome.)

Fantasies by Nix [onesided? House/Wilson, but mostly gen]
This is sneaky! I say mostly gen because honestly it -is- gen, but you could read the ending the other way if you want to. Very, very nice. This is not porn or sexual. NOT, okay?

Maryland by Shalott [Wilson/House]
Okay, so this does diverge a little bit from what you might be used to, but the best reason to read this is to see how much House needs Wilson around, and to the lengths he's willing to go to keep him around.

The One in Which House Marries Wilson (Or Possibly Doesn't) by niqaeli [?? Sort of House/Wilson but actually not?]
Awesome writing here. Just fun, lots of House verbally poking people and jabbing them and testing them, and Wilson just along for the ride, and... in-character goofing around. You'll like it. ^^

The Holding of Hands by persekore [pre-slash? Gen/one-sided/ House/Wilson]
Suffice to say from the pairing brief there that this is hard to describe. It is and it isn't, it's there and it doesn't cross the line, or not quite. It's pg-13, and it's... hm, well it has some neat pick-ups from recent episodes while tangling a bit with fandom.

Routine by coldwaterflat [Preslash? House/Wilson]
A nice, short piece focusing on several repeated routines in House & Wilson's friendship. It's got a nice balance to it, very even.

The Fine and Subtle Art of Cardiology* by Pru [Genish, one-sided House/Wilson-ish, one-sided OMC/Wilson-ish.]
House' knee-jerk reaction is to bitterly forward all his penis-enlargement advertisements to Wilson immediately and make Cameron go up to oncology and "help Dr. Wilson"--which only Wilson would be filthy enough to interpret as what it is, anyway.

Imagine Dr. House is telling you a story that involves intrigue, espionage and sticking your tongue out at people. Now imagine that, beyond even having House as the narrator and therefore saying just about any horrible thing that pops into his head, he also manages to say the things that he is only thinking half-consciously. And now imagine that it is somehow also sweet and believable at the same time that all this hilariously childish snarking and lying is going on. I would imagine that you had just fallen in love.
*Probably my favourite House fic of all time.

A Momentary Lapse of Reason by fadedpress [totally not her name, but it's not listed] [House/Wilson, Wilson/Wives, Gen]
This is a very neat take on things, partly because for once Julie isn't demonized-- she and House get along startlingly well, all things considered, and the writing is smooth, slightly distant until you get to the thing with the thing that happens later. Anyways, this jumps from point to point-- stuff with Julie, stuff with the wedding, every-day 'current' stuff, and eventually, after settling all that, ties down into what you expect in a nice, smooth kind of way. Especially enjoyable are the Someone VS Whoever discussions scattered throughout, starting with things like Batman vs Superman and devolving (or is it evolving?!) into So-and-so VS Cuddy.

Trivial Pursuits by M_Butterfly [House/Wilson]
I love how absolutely frank House is in this, regardless of anything else. As you might expect, there is Trivial Pursuit involved, but what makes it funny is how they play and where, and the way Wilson plays, especially. It's entirely Wilson-POV and startlingly fun in that way. I don't usually expect Wilson-POV to be as sparklingly goofy or snarky or funny because fans keep seeming to want to make him some kind of warm-and-fuzzies man when he's equally as sharp as House-- just better at bowing to social demands.

Balances by M_butterfly [House/Wilson]
The most important thing to this story is the fact that it's from House's perspective. I don't care what anyone else says, that makes the story. The other way, it wouldn't be half as good. But this way, you get to see exactly how in control Wilson is, and how goofily at-odds what House says can be with what he's thinking, or what he doesn't say and... Oh god. It was hillarious, and sweet and pervy all at once.

Pathogenesis and Intervention by Shallot [Primarily Gen Case-Fic, Partly House/Wilson]
Case-fic! Oh, there are not nearly enough case-fic, and this does a nice job of cause-and-effect. There's some tense sadness in here, and some hillarious character stuff, but it is constantly tied back to the case, the problem at hand.

Double Down by AmazonQueenKate & Hawkeyecat [House/Wilson-ish but also gen-ish]
Wilson is bored. Usually, if you admit that you're bored, the only real consequence is that you might come off as annoying, but most people aren't friends with House. Admitting you're bored to House? That's just asking for trouble.

Prevention by Hawkeyecat [House/Wilson]
Again, I didn't ever think I'd be reccing a fic that fullfilled a theme for teh Mile-High Club. No kidding. I enjoy graphic House stuff, but it's rare to find anything good for it, so I often wind up avoiding it in favour of gen, of House-Wilson friendship (Yes, yes, I know some of you are saying, "HA! Yeah, right, MK!", but it's true!) and my favoured House/Wilsonness. So this is good in the detail of the cranky, angry, antsy behaviour of House at this time, of the relationship between House and Wilson (fan-canon but not fanon. Does that make sense?) and...and a hand job.

Geez, that sounded weird.

Then, Now, Eventually (1, 2, 3) by Amazonqueenkate [House/Wilson]
The slight distance in tone here is perfect for achieving what she intends; it's...it's boys. I mean, it's not boys like when I say something is a total boy-fic, but the behaviour of House and Wilson in here is so much how -boys- would react to something compared to -girls- that I love it. It's loveable for all the other elements, but that was a really nice thread running through it.

Nocturne in Grey and Gold by Ignipes [Gen with a little vague House/Wilson on the side, but that's not the point.]
This. Is. So. HOUSE. "I was calling to ask you about your plans for Christmas. We'd love to have you home. I know you're busy, but..."

House smirks and plays the first few notes of the Jaws theme.

"Well." His mother sighs. "Give me a call when you get a chance. I love you, darling."

180 Degrees by Michelle Christian [House/Wilson]
Drunk Wilson is scary. So scary that even House is completely freaked out and just wants him to pass out. But not scary in a OMG-DEPRESSING way, just in a fandomy-drunk-depressed-and-oh-shit kind of way, which makes things fun if complicated. It's good. The small inserts in italics really bring things together nicely, too.

Blow the Candles Out by Syal [House/Wilson, Gen]
They sit quietly together as Julie makes dinner, each knowing that the other is secretly listening for soft lobster-screams coming from the direction of the kitchen. I saw exactly how this was going to end, but I loved it anyway because the body of it is so House and Wilson, so very much just boys being a little bit assholeish and a lot fun.

Communicate To The Masses by Hannahrorlove [Genish, House/Wilsonish]
It began, as most things did, with a drum solo. A fun look at Wilson and House's respective music collections, the clashes between them and how they work. It's got snark, laughter, a lot of musical references and some classic Houseisms.

When House Met Wilson by Pru [Primarily Gen, a little House/Wilson at the end]
If I could pay Pru to sit around writing House all day, I would. I'd go broke, but damn, I'd be so happy. House tells each of the ducklings a different way that he and Wilson first met.

Wilson stares at him for a moment in what House thinks is mute horror until he says, out loud and unrepentantly:

"When you say good seats, do you mean business, or first class?"

Maui Gold by Nutmeg4077 [gen >> Wilson/imaginary OMC >> House/Wilson]
Don't be scared off by my pairing notes, this is esentially a good, solid mix of gen & House/Wilson. Shortly after Julie & Wilson separate (in the canon), Wilson's father has a birthday and he is expected to come home for dinner. Not having told them about the divorce yet, he asks House to come with him.

"You know, there's this fascinating new invention--all the kids are doing it. It's some kind of publicly accessible system of connected computers where you can share data, and even buy things like first editions of The Ox-Bow Incident. What is that called?" House asked, putting his finger to his lips sarcastically. "Well, anyway, it would probably have been a lot easier to purchase it there. On…what is it? The interweb?"

Diagonosis; Wilson by Commodoresexual [Gen >> one-sided(?) Wilson/House]
[Part II] [Part III] Complete.

"Logic games, brain teasers. One slow period early on in our
acquaintence, House and I once spent four hours diagnosing what was wrong
with the coffee machine."

Denial by Pun [House/Wilson]
I've read this about eight times, but I didn't rec it until now for good reason. The writing is great. The characters are great. The strengths, weaknesses and evils of them are expressed perfectly. But the first three times I read it too fast and thought it was just sex, and the five times after that I thought I was reading too much into it. I don't think I am, though. The truth is, Wilson is the kind of guy who can and does cheat on one wife, repent, and then do it again. He lies, he cheats, he's as bad as or worse than House. And that's terrifying.

Distancing by Shalott [House/Wilson, House/Wilson/OFC, Wilson/OFC, Wilson/Julie]
The OFCs are minor and brief, ditto for Julie. I shouldn't like this as much as I do, but I do.

House wakes up a couple hours later and finds Wilson standing over the bed. Oh shit, is all he has time to think--

Side Effects by Isagel [House/Wilson]
Best friends were good for a lot of things, as it turned out. I love the fact that they can laugh together in this, despite or maybe because of all the weirdness. It just...it seemed so clean despite how desperately porny this is.

An Object in Motion by Greensilver [Gen, Wilson/Julie, Wilson/House]
Yes, I really can mark it both gen and those pairings. Though it tends towards the second at the end, I think you'll see what I mean. Two, maybe three days in the life of James Wilson.

House Rules by Mer [G, House-Wilson friendship]
“That’s hardly enough time to plan and execute world domination.” Actually if past games and past fellows are any indication, it’s more than enough time. Fortunately Chase drew the short straw and is sitting with the patient. He’s never forgiven House for not letting him keep Australia the last time they played Risk. House suspects that was the real reason for the Vogler betrayal.
House, Wilson, Foreman & Cameron play Risk (Which is something like Power Barons) and duke it out over ratified treaties and under-the-table agreements where Wilson gets to yell "Kamchatka!".

Against the Current by Mer [House-Wilson friendship]
Years later it would occur to Wilson that the most important relationship in his life was based on a dubious association with a daytime soap. I liked the first part a lot. The second part, not so much.

The A-Z of House by Mer [House-Wilson friendship]
She should be angrier – after all she has just discovered them playing chair badminton across the bed of a comatose patient – Fun, sweet, sad, serious. Everything you would want. And it's not outright, either, which is even better. You figure it out at the end of each chunk, but it's not stated. That makes it more fun.

In the Mood by Timbershiver [Gen, House-Wilson-Cuddy friendship, some imaginary House/Wilson, etc.]
The characterization is slightly off in this, but it's tiny little things that won't bother you too much. Mostly, it's just fun and hillarity at a wedding that none of the three really want to be at. Hijinks and highs ensue. He was feeling childishly bitter and House was feeling bitterly childish. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad day after all.

Traditions by Adrienne S. [House/Wilson, Gen]
Ahahahahaha! A nice way to tie up a string from the show -and- pull a great prank on everyone. XD You might not fully get it until the first part of the prank is over (which seems overdone until you hit the -real- prank) and...ahh, fun.

The Game of Wilson by Topaz Eyes [Gen >> Wilson/House]
Normally I don't distinguish between the order of their names, but once in awhile it definitely applies. At any rate, this is a nice look at their friendship, the tension of work-related things (Well, Oncology. What did he expect?) and just has a nice, medium-weight finish.

Games Afoot by Pru [Gen, W/Hish]
AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh my god, I love House, and this is why. This is also why I love Wilson, who is so sneaky and smart and upright and a complete and utter bastard. And everyone loves him because he's Wilson. See? You, too, would totally pay Pru to write House all the time.

Untitled by Nuala [House/Wilson]
"I'm busy," Wilson replies, glancing at the pile of charts at the nurses' station.

"No you aren't," House points out reasonably, drawing him toward the elevator.

Wilson can't argue with that.

Through the Windows of a Dark House by Gena Fisher [Gen, House/Wilson friendship]
It's rare to find a story that does a good job on Cameron. She's sweet and determined, yes, but she's also a lot like Wilson-- does stupid things because of her emotions, is capable of snark and rapid-fire wit, that kind of thing. This is a great piece going over the things Cameron wants to learn from House, the things House wants her to learn, and the deep friendship that House and Wilson have that no gerbil could ever replace. XD

Who Would You Do? by Captain_tulip [Gen >> House/Wilson/House]
House really wants to know-- how come everyone keeps sleeping with Wilson? If you had to choose between House and Wilson, who would you do? XD It's just-this-side of crack. It's fun, it's a tiny bit OOC, but it's so much fun that it doesn't really matter. And the ending? The ending is gold.

Denial's Taste is Bitter-Sweet by simple_man [Impossible House/Wilson]
This is sad and beautiful, but it has the possibility of more. It's interesting in that it's from Cameron's perspective, and maybe that makes it more sad and less emo. The writing isn't perfect-- it's the kind of style that usually actually irritates me, but here it works well; suits the purpose. The ending is both terrifying and hopeful, which is the kind of thing you would expect once you get to that point. I'm half hoping for a sequel and half dreading it. And that's when you know you've found something oddly interesting.

All Who Wander by Acidic Flower [Wilson/House/Wilson]
Oh, hw_fest, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways~ Seriously. Hw_fest is great because people take themes like Wilson has a midlife crisis and drags House along for the ride, and do things with them like this. 97% platonic, 3% something else as yet undefined, and all midlife crises, frienship with a shot of manly and so, so much love.

Imaginary by Acidic_Flower [Imaginary House/Wilson]
Spoilers for season 2 finale! Right off the bat, this is hard-core, the BIGGEST spoiler for the 2nd season finale. Not the shooting thing, the other thing. And it's pulled off perfectly. The tone, the diction, everything is as it was and how it should have been, and the actual content is -sexy- and harsh. The ending is so canon you could slip this right into the episode.

Five Drabbles in Which James Wilson is Most Definitely an Oncologist (and also sleeping with Greg House) by Sketchy-Artist [House/Wilson]
They seem…thingy.”

A Modest Proposal by Ignazwisdom [House/Wilson]
It took me the first few parts to get into this, but once I did, I was sold. It takes off from just after House's oxycodone OD and becomes an AR for the rest of the Tritter trial, taking an alternate possible solution and then moving into some really neat issues. I like that it humanized both House and Wilson, and while I think the Wilson in this is a slightly different kind of asshole, he still does asshole-type things. I like that.

Intersections by daasgrrl [House/Wilson; Gen]
Whoa, this is very involved and very fascinating. It's an interesting take on several s1-2 plot elements all tied together to form this amazing new and coherent whole. Fantastic!

Book of Genesis by Scoradh [House/Wilson]
It was a Tuesday when House realised that he was in love with Wilson - that he had been, in fact, for years.

An Inconvenient Truth by Moony [House/Wilson; Cuddy]
A surprisingly touching story-- Cuddy finally gets pregnant through some of Wilson's donated sperm, and, though a freak set of events, Wilson comes out of the closet. House freaks.

Chase/Cameron

Hazy Recolections by Cerieblue819 [Chase/Cameron]
I'm not even sure -why- I like this. It's very simple, but something about Chase's narration/perspective is really...smooth? I don't know how to explain it. It just feels very accurate.

Gen, Misc, Etc.

Untitled by Eos [gen]
Very focused on Wilson plot-wise, but the actual content is mostly House and Wilson talking. It's a really lovely short piece that could stand alone or slot into something else, particularly the episode of the first season that mentions this event. (You'll see, I don't want to mention a spoiler here if you've not done watching season one yet.)

No Exchange of Payment by Otter [gen]
Oh, I really liked this. It was just...something that could fit repeatedly into the show, with nice dialogue, a smooth but jumpy little plot and a nice open ending.

Tracking Time by Namaste [Gen]
This is a massive, massive House fic tracking House & Wilson's relationship (purely platonic as friends) from the day they met to the present of the series. It's excellent, it's full of detail and dialogue and switches between their two perspectives. It might have done better with a bit more switching, but it is still simply an awesome, very long piece of writing.

Balance by Namaste [Gen]
This is a very neat Wilson-centric piece that focuses on his relationship with his missing brother and his current friendship with House. It's neat, it's kind of melancholic but not depressing or emo. Nice.

The Java Jive by Namaste [gen]
I love how manipulative House was in this. Sneaky, totally messing with people and having fun while sticking his fingers in just the pots he wants and well...you know. He's House.

Sympathy by allybally123 [none]
Listed as House/Wilson pre-slash, but it's really a nice friendship piece, post-divorce. (What's funny is that the fans anticipate seeing a divorce so much, but the show is still going with it. XD I love it.) I like the back-and-forth here, how solidly unrepentant House is, how Wilson is first whiney and then comes back with the stuff that shows why he and House are friends. It's good, it's nice, it's gen.

Playing for Position by Npkedit [Gen]
QS rec'd this awhile back on [info]rec_a_day, and it took me two minutes of staring at her rec before I gave it a shot. The reason for that is that it's written in second person, but I think this is one of those very rare instances where second person not only works, but works so well that I actually wouldn't want it written differently. It's the first hundred-and-seventy-eight days of Chase working for House before the other Ducklings join the team, and it's neat, very tidy, very clean.

Love in an Elevator by Davechicken [Gen]
Not what you're thinking, not what you're thinking, not what you're thinking, okay? It's -gen-. Mostly. And it's full of snark and good times. Nice, sharp writing.

The Unwilling Host by JM Torres [Gen]
"Don't any of you people have families?" he demanded. "You can't all be on call."

"I'm Australian," said Chase. "We don't observe the holiday."

"Yeah?" House said. "What's everyone else's excuse?"

Last Rights by Dira Sudis [Gen]
A Chase-Cameron gen fic, and absolutely the perfect first thing to read when I was really enjoying their interaction on-screen. The opening is a little laggy, a little long for what it is, but once it gets going it has a beautiful kind of attached detachment to it. Cameron is focused and confused and a little awkward, perfect for the situation; Chase is a little dark, a little desperate and everything you'd hope he would be. House has some excellent snark mixed in with his sneaky goodness that makes him a good person to know. She paused near the door, signing the register; her Princeton, New Jersey, USA came just underneath St. Peter's College, Oxford, England and Vancouver, BC, Canada, and she thought she wasn't going to have to explain herself at all.

Observations by Pru [Gen?]
He turns to Wilson and says, "You should give up now. The DVD developed a very close and intimate relationship with the TiVo and they don't want to be separated."

Wilson glares and points a pair of scissors at him from the floor. Cameron's never seen Wilson in sneakers before and it's strange to see the head of oncology, curled up Indian-style on the floor, glasses askew and all out of place. She wonders what House is like, out of context, and if she will ever see it. "I'm stealing things from you," Wilson promises. "The moment you leave."

Fun at Funerals by Genagirl [Gen]
“I’m a complete package,” House explained, “Supportive yet psychotic.”

Deeper Waters by PWCorgigirl [Gen]
She’d likely been born the year he met Stacy. The happiest year of his life, and the year her parents would have found out their baby girl had a most unusual form of mental retardation. Life was nothing if not rich with irony.

He had his legacies, but they were all of his work. There was nothing of himself, of the rest of him, to leave behind. Except, he thought, to this little human jukebox.

“Listen to this,” he said. “My mother taught me this song. She learned it from her mother.” He closed his eyes and reached for the first notes of “I Dreamed I Dwelt in Marble Halls.”

Safe From Harm by Maya Tawi [Gen]
Case!fic, which is fun, with huge sides of Action and Intrigue. I kid you not, this is...well, quite fun. "I watch Alias," House explained. "I know how these things work."

Five Things That Never Happened to Gregory House by Irena K. [Gen, various House/Whoevers]
I was actually uncomfortable reading this. It's dark, and scary, and uncomfortable. And good.

Futures by Shalott [Gen, Wilson/Wives]
"You want me to pay you alimony if I get divorced again?" Good, funny, snarky, in character. Don't worry. We'll go halves.

Eight Encounters by Greensilver [Gen, Cuddy-centric]
A great piece taking you from Cuddy as an eight year old to Cuddy as hospital admin. Fantastic, very Cuddy, very sharp.

Riding the Carousel by rwyter [Gen, Foreman-centric]
This takes you through Foreman as a three year old to Foreman applying for the job at PPTH. Really solid, nice narrative tone, good details and a solid development.

Eight Days by Pru [Gen, House-Wilson friendship.]
"I know," House says magnanimously at Wilson's horrified silence. "No need to thank me." Happy Jew Christmas! Yes, it's that time of year again. Who ever said House doesn't give presents? He gives the best presents EVAR.

Sputter Out by The Caffeinated [Gen, H/W Friendship]
Another response to the "It's Wilson's first week on the job and everyone is telling him to stay away from some nutjob called House." This was kind of mellow. Wilson's a little emo at first, but you have to remember that he's pre-House here. Once House enters the scene, it kind of moves into the start of something plausible. I could see things starting like this.

Unintended Impression by Rachetblack [Gen, fake H/W]
Chase bristled like a terrified cat, whirled around, and looked House over from head to toe-- involuntarily, he would later defend himself to Foreman. He shared a startled glance with Foreman, then, as one, the two younger doctors bolted for the door. That's pretty much how it starts, and really, how it ends, too. And you'll love it. The girl did a great job on making this funny. ^^

Third Base & Bad Ties by Rachetblack [Gen? Uh...maybe? Well...]
For one heart-stopping moment, Wilson had a terrifying mental image of himself wearing one of Cuddy's low-cut tops and had to dig the heels of his hands into his eyesockets to drive it away.

"My headache has nothing to do with House," he said, sounding a bit strained, and cursed violently in his mind for remembering a particularly flamboyant tie in his closet that would have gone perfectly with the flowery top Cuddy was wearing today.

Not quite how I'd imagine Wilson's Inner Monologue to be, but funny, and full of sharp, silly bits.

Confidentiality by Hawkeyecat [House/Cuddy]
Ahhhh! Okay, so I've never read House/Cuddy before. But I read this because, hell, it's HEC and she's damn good and well, the last two episodes... Who could resist? Honestly? And this is fun. It's sharp and has some snark and wit and sex, but it's just how you would expect it to be. Really, super.

Deriving the Prime by Pru [House/Cuddy/Wilson]
House kind of stares off after her for a moment, torn between being incredibly turned on and scared and calls after Cuddy, "I *knew* you had designs on Wilson's virtue!" A surprisingly emotional and really...beautiful piece. You might not expect that, but it's really got a great humanity going for it.

The Evolution of Caring by Hawkeyecat [Gen]
Okay, so yes, I am rec'cing a lot of HEC. But she's so good! I think this is the second in a series of character profile pieces going over how they decided to become doctors and eventually got to work with House. Like Foreman's, Cameron's starts when she's very young. The family picture is really believable. You can see Allison growing up in a situation like this, and how it might have influenced her. The characters drawn up as family are just -good-, and Cameron's actions & reasoning are all really good. They don't fully go with House's analysis of her character, but it's still very plausible.

Below the Surface by Amazon Queen Kate and HawkeyeCat [Genish]
Spoilers for s2 finale. Where was Wilson when House was getting shot? When he was taken into the OR? Two of my favourite authors in the House fandom take a quick look at how it might be, and it's calm, cool and plausible.
