It's telling; Merlin is careless. Clumsy with both his words and the magic. Arthur is sure that Gaius is telling Merlin on a daily basis that he must be more careful, must keep the magic secret at all costs. Arthur is equally certain that Merlin thinks he is, and that Arthur is doing him no favors by pretending that he believes Merlin when Merlin lies to him. Definitely my favourite this week. It's plotty and involved and very revealing. I was almost surprised when the actual romance hit, and it had more effect because of it.

The Pendragon Guide to How Not to Date by Definewisdom [Merlin/Arthur, Morgana/Owain]
Arthur winds up on a series of blind dates at the nearby pub and each goes horribly. At the same time he seems to be accidentally having dates with the bartender, Merlin, and doesn't know it yet. A little OOC, but it's a fun contemporary au with some hilarity and ridiculousness. I'd like to see it fleshed out a bit more after the end, though.

This story is beautiful and elegantly constructed and had me on the edge of my seat for about two hours, first laughing, then tense with anticipation and fear. New favourite, absolutely. You must read this.

I don't think you fully need to read all of the explanatory notes, though I'll admit I've gotten some of them confused because of not reading them. There's a lot of specialized language for rowing and Oxford, apparently. Who knew?

Lamardeuse’s EPIC Merlin close-to-canon contemporary AU where everything is as it is today except the legends of Arthur and Merlin and Albion have been lost to time. Morgana and Arthur are police officers tracking a series of robberies and Merlin is new to London for schooling under Gaius. This is amazingly plotty with funny moments and fantastically developed everything.

Absolutely amazing, you must read this. It’s a contemporary AU where Arthur has kind of a lame life and winds up working for Merlin, and of course, falling in love.

If Supernatural were Merlin, the boys wouldn’t be brothers but they’d still tool around in a car tracking down Nimueh and arguing about where to eat. Uther would be out somewhere ahead of them, maybe dead, maybe just working, and Merlin’s magic would be a sticking point considering they’re hunting magical creatures. (There's no need to have ever watched SPN to read this fic.)

Where Merlin agrees to be Arthur’s Lord of the Bedchamber in name only not because they’re in love, or he wants in his pants, but because Arthur doesn’t want to force himself on a knight. Slow pining and a funny, not overly plotty development make this very enjoyable.

The beginning is a little rough, and some of the dialogue needs work, but overall this is a really enjoyable story where Merlin reveals himself irrevocably to the entire court and Arthur demands a fair trial.
