Disclosure by Eos [Jack/Daniel]
I
found a lot of Eos' sg-1 stuff to be less well-written than her
Atlantis stuff, but it's really just a time difference. You can
definitely see her writing grow in leaps and bounds, and I think this
is an excellent example of how solid her character-voices can be. The
whole team is pretty crystal clear, the story is neat and involves
mission B-plots right alongside the Daniel A-plot, and O'Niell's
perspective is totally solid. It's sweet, funny, sexy and has a lot of
great alien details to it. Nice, well-rounded.
Diversion
by Biblio [Jack/Daniel]
It was hell being an
undercover sexual plaything,
especially when you weren’t getting any action under the
covers. Not an AU, shockingly. It's a kind of alternate copy
of a season 4 episode, The Light.
[Except that...it really has nothing to do with it. At all. Seriously,
I read this and then saw the episode, and the episode disappointed me.
It was sad.] Here's the thing: It kind of sucks. Not totally, otherwise
I wouldn't be reccing it, but... just read the first three or four
chapters and then stop. The first three are full of UST and a little
hillarity and a neat alien A-plot (which continues for the rest of the
story). Even some unusual OCs. But really--- not worth reading past the
first three. Those were entertaining, though.
Pavlov
by Kalimyre [Jack/Daniel]
There
was a really good SGA fic like this that I rec'd a while back, and
while one key element is different between them, they're very similar.
Aliens have you trapped in a super-clean, super-boring cage/box of
sorts. You have food, water, etc. And then they start with the
conditioned responses.
Perspicacity
by Kalimyre [Jack/Daniel]
A
million times better than the above, but both are neat
thought-experiments. This has a definite comfort level and warm-fuzzy
quotient though-- enjoyable. And hey, who doesn't love alien!esp?
Commanding
Daniel Jackson (SGC Internal Memorandum) by Biblio and
Phoenixe [Team/Daniel, Jack/Daniel]
There's
a sequel linked at the bottom-- Daniel's "rebuttal", complete with
end-notes of a sort. This is a hillarious, list style memorandum send
by Jack to various commanders inside the SGC detailing the rules and
regulations for borrowing Dr. Jackson. Apparently all of SG-1
(excluding...Daniel) agree.
No
Consequences by Brenda [Jack/Daniel]
AU for Window of Opportunity. Let
me ask you something. In all the times that you were looping, were you
ever tempted to do something crazy? I mean, you could do anything
without worrying about consequences. On the one hand, I
really
liked the main body of this. It had a good, desperate feel to it--
melancholy but in the best possible way, kind of sweet. The ending I
wasn't so keen on, but really, the body is beautifully executed.
In the
Interim
by Kellifer [Jack/Daniel]
A short piece somewhere inside The Light (s4) where the team is still
detoxing off-world. It's short, light, and the ending is pretty
classic. Fun.
Downtime
by Merry [Jack/Daniel pre-slash, some vague pre-Carter/Jack/Daniel]
Mostly team!gen with a lot of Jack and Daniel Preness and
Carter-Jack-Daniel preness. It's fun, smooth, mellow and takes place
almost entirely off-world. There's a really neat alien A-plot involving
the Tollan, Nareim shows up with a Mood Alien and Teal'C and Carter get
to run off and have a blast together. All in all? A good time.
Endurance
by Destina [Jack/Daniel]
I lovelovelove this kind of story. It just hits everything -right- for
me. Small details, a day-by-day log of complete give-and-take, shifting
power balances... and a lot of very, very nice UST.
Avalanche
by princessofg [Jack/Daniel]
Starts with some h/c but evolves into something else, something I'd
read first in SGA but love to see just about anywhere. It's a classic
in that sense, and a nicely executed job of it. Very smooth, very
Daniel. And, you know, FT. So I'm sold.
Rules
of Evidence
by Komos [Jack/Daniel]
This was really interesting for the use of one particular narrative
device. You'll notice that until the end of the story, things Jack does
or says are described from a distance but never directly reported. That
really sold me, that distance and then the change at the end.
Two
Sides of the Coin by Dith [Jack/Daniel]
WOW. This is epic, full of plot, full of character development and has
some dark themes. It repeatedly references Shifu's alternate-reality
inside Daniel's head, (with some extrapolation) so you might get what I
mean by that. Dark, but not bad dark. Well-developed dark with lots of
action and adventure and two very interesting and unusual off-world
cultures. Fascinating and, at the end, hot.
Grown
Men Don't Freak by Annie D and Katryne [Jack/Daniel]
This is... amazing. I mean, at first I thought maybe I just liked it
because I was procrastinating, but I think I was wrong. I think I
actually, genuinely liked
it
entirely because it was awesome and fun and light and---and endearing!
It's one of those endearing stories. And it hits all sorts of good
spots for me. Like glasses! And FT!
The
Reason Why by doctorv [Jack/Daniel]
Ignore the kind of lame title. Aside from one small problem I have,
this is an awesome character piece inside the Shifu!Illusion!Universe
that everyone loves so much. (Dictator!Daniel!
Probably-soon-a-sex-slave!Jack!) So I think there was a slight problem
where she doesn't do a lot with Jack being freaked out re: Moscow and
Hostile World Take-over, but other than that the characters are spot-on.
Really stellar, slightly heart-breaking but... happy. I mean, no one
dies or anything. It's just kind of beautiful and a little bit twisted.
And cool.
Loki's Curse by Jonah in the Whale [Jack/Daniel but 95%
gen]
This story takes a familiar plot device and runs with it. It's
probably the best use of the Loki plotline I've ever seen, and there
are these tiny, tiny details that thread it all together so solidly.
The way Jack talks about specific things, the way
stillkindofamnesiac!Daniel does, the way--- wow. It's just... it's so
perfectly involved and tied together, and it's got this massive, huge,
detailed plot that runs for 90% of the story that will suck you in.
Truth
and Consequences by ANKH [Jack/Daniel]
I'm not going to say this is the best Window of Opportunity
AR I've seen, but it's certainly neat. Great execution, steamy, chewy
centre and a nice, open ending that is positive but leaves some things
up to you. And Teal'C in the background? Pretty awesome.
Complications by Darcy [Jack/Daniel]
I liked this quite a bit, but I'm half unsure of whether or not I liked it for the wrong
reasons. It's a solid AU, nice character work, great details, has a
real-life feel, etc. It's a little sappy, but fun. But mostly it
reminded me of reading NHL fic that Nyo would send me. And that added
this huge nostalgic feeling to it.
Fire and Ice by ELG [Jack/Daniel]
This is pretty epic, which is good, because SG-1 should be epic. It should always be epic. It's long and involved and has the feeling of a book, an English class novel, a movie. It's good.
Esprit de Corps by Quercus and G [Jack/Daniel]
Okay,
wow. For the body of this, I thought I knew what was going on, but the
end still took me by surprise. I thought it was going to be mostly gen,
character work and SGC politics --which it is, and which it isn't. It's
something else entirely and while the end was a little cheesy, I loved
it. Great, paced development and detailed work on minor characters, on
background events, on team interaction, on everything. Lovely.
The Other Half by Eliade [Jack/Daniel]
This is weird, but also good! On the one hand, the ending is kind of
dark (no death or anything, it's psychological) but it's also... happy?
The way it's phrased makes it kind of questionable, but there is no
doubt that it's an excellent, totally absorbing story. Alien tech!
Slavery! A Tok'ra mission! Serious medical effects! Pranking!
First Impressions by Pares [Jack/Daniel]
Wow! First this reminded me of the SGA story Residual Heat/Heat Source,
but then it got all crazy and involved and wow-- alien
...not-quite-tech? Shared consciousness? And probably the most original
interpretation of the Firlings I've ever seen.
T-Minus Ten and Counting by Teand [Jack/Daniel]
8 days of on-earth quarantine that follow two days off-world. Jack and
Daniel are frustrated; Carter and Frasier are nosy; Teal'c and Hammond
are -hilarious-. "Not spying.
Looking out for them. Running interference if need be. If they're going
to have a chance at love under these terrible, unjust conditions,
they're going to need our help." And really? That's some "help" they got.
Calibrate by Synecdochic [Jack/Daniel pre-slash]
Nice, relaxing. I could describe it but it would sound lame and kinky,
and it's not. It's just nice, smooth pre-slash where they're
comfortable with each other.
Gen, Misc, Etc.
Appassionate per L'Aqua by Lady of Asheru [96% gen, 4%
Jack/Daniel pre-slash]
Holy crap. If I had to do this to be a civilian consultant
for a military body, I would quit.
A Jack Tale by SEF [99% gen, 1% Jack/Daniel]
I know I'm behind, but maybe someone out there is like me-- just
starting season 8 and kind of terrified of an SG-1 without Jack on
off-world missions. This, I think, is exactly what you need to read.
It's Jack's last off-world mission before he accepts the job of
General, it's full of myth and mythology and it's beautifully
in-character with a deep focus on the team. This is team love at it's
best.
