The
tall guy says, "Well, there should be some ID on us." He pats his
pockets, presumably looking for a wallet. He pulls out a slim billfold
and flips it open. "Angus Young." So what if, mid-sentence,
you forgot everything? It's just that kind of demon, really.
Inference
by Alazysod [Sam/Dean]
Seven
towns, seven places to sleep. I actually think this would work better
as Gen, and it's mostly gen right up until the end when the Sam/Dean
hits, but regardless, it's nice. Straightforward, simple, to the point.
“We could always get out
and do the
‘Sixty-Nine Things To Do In Wal-Mart.’”
Sam ducks his head and grins against the seat, thinking of
shopping
cart races.

"Yeah,
well," Dean sighed, finally opening his eyes and pointing out an exit.
"Just figured I hadn't been home in a while. This's as good an
opportunity as any."
And here's where Sam would almost rear-end the car in front of him, but
doesn't.
There's
a lot of things you miss out on when you go away to college. Like your
Dad buying a house for you to crash at when your brother breaks his gun
arm. And stuff.

Linking
to part two here which has a link to part one at the top. [Complete]
This is fantastic in so many ways, and has roots in something that I adore.
(And that something? Already had a kabillion meanings for me, but now
it has one more.) Lovely, fun, brotherly and
pulling together things that are plausible and fun and sad and intense.
Really, a very good piece.

MMOM Listing by Beren-Writes [Many, listed.]
So
I've just listed a bunch of stories that are good for character, plot
and all sorts of good writery-things in this post. And I have to even
that out because I've been doing it for awhile! So, this will
definitely do. It's 31 fics, one for each day in May, for the Merry
Month of Masturbation. I'm not kidding. There's...some
plot and characterization in here. But for the most part? Just sex.
Refer
to Reality
by Impertinence [Sam/Dean]
The story in this is kind of lacking, but the voices are so
dead-on,
the boys are so much themselves that it's just-- it's awesome. It's
pre-series, no real spoilers, and... ha! I'd almost say it's a PWP,
except that there's a tiiiiny plot in there. Sort of.
What Came
Before by Signe [Sam/Dean]
Again, this is before the series and kind of has a similar
feeling,
even though they're by different authors.
Sam
falls asleep on the sofa, waiting, head cushioned on one arm. Book
face-down on the floor beside him, the way he'd never allow
intentionally. Morning

Not Touching You (And Other Annoying Games Little Brothers Play)
by Trollprincess [Sam/Dean]
A great way to work through issues regarding Sam's special
abilities
following the events of S1's "Nightmare". It's training and smut, all
tied together with a mission. Really sharp.
Plastic!Wincester Theatre
by Anteka [Sam/Dean]
Damn you, Chibi, for hooking me on barbie-slash-crack! There
is a girl
who films "Episodes" of Supernatural (new episodes, not stuff you've
seen on TV) with...barbies. And other assorted children's toys, all on
top of her cat's scratching post. It's -hillarious-. Ash and I
"watched" it during class and had to smother our laughter because it
was so insanely crack!tastic. So if you're thinking that, relative to
SGA, Supernatural doesn't have enough crack? This is for you.
Waiting Games
by Nutkin [Sam/Dean]
Wow,
talk about pacing! This was seriously careful, deliberate and
definitely a matter of intent. It's long and involved and kind of
plotty. Sam here is so detailed and involved-- he's full of questions
and half-formed ideas and it all has that hazy road-trip feeling that
you can figure is what falls between episodes of SPN (aside from, you
know,
other cases.)
Man, this was fantastic. Spoilers for up to
Born Under a Bad Sign.
Pavlov's
Bell by Lyra-wing [Sam/Dean]
Uh... anything with pavlov in the title? Usually for the win. And in
this case?
Definitely.
Fuck or
Die by casspeach [Sam/Dean]
I
love Casspeach from the House, M.D. and Stargate: Atlantis fandoms, and
now, finally, she has written Supernatural! And not just any
Supernatural, but crazy incubus Wincest with the weird pacing from the
show and the awesomeness of Sam and Dean. Yeah. I'm a little in love.
Binding
by Shalott [Sam/Dean]
Okay, wow, I totally didn't expect this
to be what it was. It's fantastic, has a wicked plot device, makes
awesome use of Dean's brain, and I really, really wish someone would do
this for SGA now. WOW.
I
Hate People When They're Not Polite by Trollprincess
[Sam/Dean]
Oh god, this is a creepy, creeeeepy take on what
Hunted -could- have been, what it might have lead to if things were a
little different. It's really scary and completely understandable and
freaked me out where before I had taken this all as "Psh, whatever".
People
Livin' in Competiton by Lady Jaida [Sam/Dean]
A
great combination of two actual events from the show, mixed together to
form something hilarious and somehow plausible even in the middle of
all the insanity. Boys will be boys, I guess, and Winchesters, well....
The Courtship of One Jared Padalecki or How Jensen Ackles Drives Men to Sexual Deviancy by Notthequiettype [Jensen/Jared]
I
wasn't totally sold on this at first, but by the end I was laughing and
completely immersed. There are a few typos, but you can ignore them
because it's funny, frustrating, and reaallly light. And awkward. And
fun. Seriously. Fun.
Under Hill by Astolat [Sam/Dean]
I
love Astolat from so many fandoms (but especially SGA), so I always get
kind of giddy when I see she's writing something new. And new and for
SPN? YES. I will say that the ending here was a little weird, but the
rest of the story is solid, plotty, full of excellent characterization
and wicked dialogue. It's really something fantastically fun.

Pranking
Fic
by lyra_wing [Gen]
Now
this
is boys being boys. When she said pranking fic, she wasn't kidding.
It's hillarious, all-out goodness in the most vicious way possible.
Works
in Mysterious Ways by Lyra_Wing [Gen]
I've
linked to part two here, which has a link to part one at the top. An
interesting, slightly hasty fic that feels kind of like an episode;
crop circles and fire starters and Sam and Dean on the run.
The
Rest is Still Unwritten by Lyra_wing [Gen, a touch of omc/Sam]
Sam
would probably hate having Dean pick him up from school. That's what
this is supposed to be about, but really it's a beautiful little thing
on working through some family issues back in the day, and oh, the
interaction between Sam and Dean and how much of an older brother and a
bit of a bastard Dean is-- excellent.
Another
Road Song by Thete [Gen]
Oh.
My. God. The thing I love most about this girl is that no matter who
she writes, they're in character. So in character that I can really
hear JA and JP's voices in my head when I read it, loud and clear.
Dean's narration is exactly like his speech; full of short, sharp
phrases and grasping for phrases because finding the right words isn't
his strong point. (Killing things is. And making stuff out of
electronics, apparently.) Sam is so determined to drive, to explain
himself even when it's just going to piss Dean off more and... and it's
so
brotherly. Gold.
Lost,
behind by Thete [Gen]
Again,
her characterization is perfect, but this time it's got more of a focus
on the way their relationship changed in the time that Sam went to
school; the key differences between Sam and Dean and the stresses it
brings out, the stresses it doesn't. There's a touch of Sam/Dean near
the end, but it's really gen. (You could read it either way.) Lovely
and a little bit lonely.
St.
Peter's Bones by Peripheralsight [85% Gen, the rest is
Sam/Dean]
Jessica’s
memorial service was held on one of those cellophane California days
when the blue of the sky made everything look two-dimensional. It was
some sort of outdoor tent ceremony on the Stanford campus, and even the
minister had worn sunglasses. There were flowers everywhere, yellow and
purple ones he couldn’t name that added to the glare and the
oppressively sweet smell of the crowd. Sam had on a suit and Dean had
miraculously found a pair of slacks somewhere. They were itchy.
Has
a very well done A-plot involving selkie, and then this...this sad and
beautiful and funny B-plot with one of the best childhood stories I've
ever seen and a morose bit of funeral remembered. When I hit the sex, I
thought it was unnecessary. When I finished, I saw why it was there.
Vocabulary
by Innie-Darling [Gen, pre-series]
“No,
no, wait. His mouth is to die
for.” Murmurs of agreement drift in the air.
Todiefor she said, a single word on a single exhalation. Sam smiles.
Fantasizing that he is the object of desire. I am todiefor.
Realization jolts him fully, unpleasantly awake.
Todiefor isn’t fun at all when it is literal
Sam's
digging for adjectives for a class assignment. Sounds kind of lame but
oh, the writing is beautiful and sad and funny and happy and sometimes
just so calm and
Sam. Beautiful.

California by Ignipes [Gen]
It only took
them four fucking months to
acknowledge that I'm still alive.
But he doesn't let that thought go any further. He uses a pen to punch
through the tape on the package and pulls it open.
The
contents are well-hidden under scrunched-up newspapers -- The Denver
Post, he notices, not an Illinois paper at all -- and as he removes
each item from the box he doesn't know whether to laugh or cry.

yeah. yeah, i know.
Great,
sneaky parallels between the italic conversation between some random
guy on the street and a kid, and the stuff going on with Sam, Dean and
John, etc. Really nicely pulled off.
As
I Lay Me Down to Sleep by Troll Princess [Gen]
I
don't quite know how to label this. It's beautiful, and very smooth and
well executed, but it doesn't fit into any real categories. It's a kind
of explorative twist, but it doesn't really change anything, not yet.
Except that it
does.
When
Dean Winchester was four years old, a
strange man came into his bedroom one night and told him his mommy was
going to die.
Needs
Must When the Devil Drives
by Lady Jaida [Gen]
Spoilers for
first season finale. Just
gotta say that straight out. Other than that, nothing really happens
but it's
fantastic.
Voices are spot on, the situation is entirely probable and even
possible, though I disagree with the 911 thing. (But I'm thinking
logistics over internal bleeding. You know. Whatever.) Still. Fantastic.
Special
by Lady Ophelia [Gen]
Special. Is that what
they're calling it these
days?
Pre-series hillarity in the form of Sam and Dean (grades 2 and six
respectively) pretty much taking school by storm, and Daddy Winchester
grinning on the sidelines while the staff groan, moan and are utterly
charmed. What did you expect?
Five
Things Dean Has Only Ever Said When Sam Couldn't Hear Him (Except Sam

Demons,

Spoilers for the end of
Croatoan. Dean tells Sam what exactly John said about him. And it's
terrifying[ly funny!].
Reminders of Echoes by Maygra [99% gen, slight, very slight Sam/Dean]
I'm so used to cracked-out uses and applications of Sam's powers
that this is a really nice change. It's smooth and soft and
just...ordinary, even with the werewolf thing in the middle of it all.
Even then, it just kind of left me feeling good.
